Nick Nitro. Demolition is my mission.
―Nick Nitro to Chip Hazard🗩

Nick Nitro is an animatronic toy, and a secondary antagonist of Small Soldiers. He was designed by Larry Benson, an employee of Heartland Play Systems, for the Small Soldiers toy line.

Design[]

As demolitions expert of the Commando Elite, his surname is a play on nitroglycerin explosives. Like all Commando Elite, his glowing interaction button is on his belt.

He's got a Mohawk and a little matchstick stuck in his mouth. He's the bomb expert, the explosives and demolition guy. He's got four grenades on a chain wrapped around his neck. He's got three sticks of dynamite, and his bomb detonator on one arm. He has cotton wool in his ear. He's got a gold tooth. He's quite the character. Fresh out of his box, he's got a really fun backpack on him, with rockets and dynamite.

Small Soldiers (film)[]

Other Appearances[]

Small Soldiers (PS1) (Video Game)
Nick Nitro first appears on the Spirit Bog level, along with Mortar, who both use low-to-mid-range arced ballistic attacks. He has a high movement speed, which could be seen as a pun on his surname, referring to nitrous oxide (used in car engines). He also has a notably higher pitched voice than in the film, possibly a reference to nitrous oxide's other use as 'laughing gas'.

Small Soldiers: Squad Commander (Video Game)
Nick Nitro appears as a playable character during the Commando Elite campaign, and as an enemy during the Gorgonite campaign. He attacks by firing the rockets on his back.

Destination detonation!

Trivia[]

  • During the roll call at The Inner Child, Chip Hazard mentions that he served with Nick's late father. Although never mentioned in the canon, this implies that the Commandos were all programmed with backstories, similarly to the Gorgonites' desire to 'return home'.
