The Gorgonites are peaceful, we mean no harm.

The Gorgonites are a peaceful multi-species race of monsters, lead by their Emissary, Archer. They were designed by Irwin Wayfair for Heartland Toy Company, who had intended for them to be educational toys. Following the company's acquisition by Globotech Industries, they were instead marketed as the enemies of the Commando Elite for the Small Soldiers toy line, and given the credo: "Destroy order, promote chaos!".[citation needed] True to their peaceful design, the Gorgonites were programmed to hide from and eventually lose to the Commando Elite, while seeking out their lost homeworld of Gorgon.

The Gorgonite menace prowls the world, searching for the lost island of Gorgon... The Gorgonites are the scum of the universe and the Commando Elite are takin' out the trash!"
―Gorgonite toy's box description

Design

See also: Gorgonite Concepts Designed as the beastly, nature-loving counterpart of the militaristic Commando Elite, each member looks completely different from the rest. Each character has a glowing green talisman that acts as a power/interact button, located somewhere on their body; for Archer, it is his belt buckle, but for Ocula, it is attached to their back.

Even though the Gorgonites are monsters, they have a sensitivity about them that is beyond their design. Even though the Gorgonites are misfits, are lovable and very soulful characters. They were designed with that in mind.

Non-Canon

Small Soldiers (film)

Built with the X-1000 microprocessor chip at their core, the Gorgonites were designed to be the victims of the Commando Elite's righteous slaughter. Waking up as more than just toys, the group of Gorgonites the film follows barely survived their first encounter with the Commando Elite at The Inner Child, with Troglokhan being completely destroyed as the others hid.

During the film, the Gorgonites were able to overcome their programming and they fought back against the Commandos, with the help from human Alan Abernathy. After their victory, they decided to fulfil their mission of finding Gorgon.

Other Appearances

The Gorgonites' Quest (Book)

Set directly after the film, this book follows the Gorgonites' adventure on their journey to find "Gorgon". Written by the original script's author, this book can be interpreted as official canon.

Top Secret Dossier (Book)

This in-universe book features profiles of every character, listing details of the Gorgonites' narrative universe that are never touched upon in the film. These details include the Gorgonite Homeworlds, a map and description of Gorgon, toy prices, and a glimpse into Irwin Wayfair's creative process. The profiles outlined in this book have been applied to the respective characters' pages, as it is the only first-party supplement to be released with defining terms true to the film's canon.

Small Soldiers (PS1) (Video Game)

Gorgonites are the only playable race, with Archer being the only playable character (outside of multiplayer). The plot is centered around the Commando Elite's assault of Gorgon, and the Gorgonites (mainly Archer) defending themselves against it. Featured characters include: (incomplete)

Trivia

  • The Gorgonites' packaging states that their goals are to "destroy order" and "promote chaos", which are not the directives programmed into the toys. This ties in with Heartland Play Systems' promotional narrative of the Commando Elite being the virtuous heroes, and the Gorgonites being evil monsters to be defeated. Despite this, the Gorgonite boxes are decorated with a peaceful woodland scene, not typically associated with "villains".
  • Nibble is the only known Gorgonite able to fly. He is seen as a brown colored bat-like creature in the PS1 game, but resembles a figure similar in appearance to Insaniac. The troll-like appearance is briefly seen as an action figure.[citation needed]
  • The toy line they used as the base of the Gorgonites was Masters of the Universe.[citation needed]
